Select Universal Undercoat

Features

• Provides a smooth base for topcoats.
• Easy brushing and levelling.
• Excellent adhesion on properly primed or sealed surfaces.
• Easily sanded for smoother finishes.
• Excellent hiding ability to cover dark colours or yellow stain marks on ceilings.

Intended Usages

• As base coat on interior/exterior primed metal, interior wood or hardboard.
• For use as a basecoat over correctly primed plaster followed by Gloss Enamel or Eggshell Enamel or PVA

Application Details

• Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
• Method: Roller and brush.
• Thinning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine
• Cleaning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine

Conditions:

• Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
• Relative humidity between 10% and 85%
• Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
• If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time: 
Surface dry:  3h at 23ºC
Overcoating: 14h at 23ºC

Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Requirements: One coat.

Surface Preparations

Surfaces must be sound, clean and dry (moisture content below 15%) before painting.

New work:
Metal (new)

• Clean surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:5) and scouring pads, rinse with clean water and allow drying. Prime with Prominent Machinery Enamel Primer or Prominent Rust Primer.

• Remove rust, clean surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:5) and scouring pads, rinse with clean water and allow drying. Prime with Prominent Machinery Enamel Primer or Prominent Rust Primer.

• Sand smooth, remove dust and prime with Prominent Wood Primer.

• Apply directly.

• Prime with Prominent Damp Cure or Plaster Primer or Select Plaster Primer.

• Prime with Prominent Plaster Primer or Select Plaster Primer.

Redecorating:
Emulsion Paint

• Clean and apply directly.

• Abrade and apply directly.

• Remove and treat as new work.

Limitations

• Cannot be applied to unprimed surfaces.
• Must be overcoated for protection.
• Cannot be applied onto rhinolite, cretestone, glassstone, cement fibre and parapet walls.
• Cannot be used for bridging hairline cracks.
• To ensure a consistent appearance, ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.
• Guarantee only applies to correctly prepared/sound raw or unpainted surfaces and overcoated with Select Range top coats carrying a 7 year guarantee.
• Cannot be tinted.

Safety

• Keep out of reach of children.
• Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
• In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
• If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.

• To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
