Features
- UV resistant: Can be used as exterior coating.
- Abrasion resistant: Outperforms conventional decorative coatings.
- Water resistant.
- Chemical resistant: Withstands diluted acids, alkalis and solvents.
- 100% lead free.
Intended Usages
- Floor coating where medium abrasion resistance is required.
- Coating for fibreglass sheeting.
- Interior wood, interior or exterior non-ferrous metal, fibreglass, cement or concrete surface where resistance to solvents, acids and abrasion is required.
Application Details
Mixing:
- 4 parts base to 1 part catalyst by volume. Mix base and catalyst separately with flat paddle for 3 minutes before adding the catalyst to the base, thereafter mix well for an additional 3 minutes using a flat padde until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
- For the clear Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coating, mix the catalyst and base until a clear homogeneous mixture is obtained.
- Allow the mixture of base with catalyst to stand for 15 minutes before use.
Method: Brush, Mohair roller, depending on the roughness of the substrate.
Thinning: Roller, Brush ready to use. Spray 20% maximum with ProGold Polyurethane Thinners.
Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Polyurethane Thinners.
Conditions:
- Temperature between 10°C and 40°C.
- Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00. DO NOT use at temperatures below 10°C or when the relative humidity is greater than 85%.
Drying time:
Touch dry - 6 hours, Hard dry - 16 hours, Traffic - 72 hours at 25°C with relative humidity of less than 55% .
Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).
Recoating time: MINIMUM 8 hours, MAXIMUM 24 hours between Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coatings coats
Requirements: 2-3 coats.
Pot life: 2 hours.
Surface Preparations
Steel:
- Remove fabricators pre-treated oil, oxidation or any other contamination with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner / water mixture (ratio 1: 5) and abrasive pads.
- Ensure that a water break-free surface is obtained. Rinse well and allow drying before applying one coat Prominent Paints Etch Primer.
Fibreglass:
- Abrade to matt finish, remove dust and apply directly.
Concrete (moisture levels above 8% but below 15%):
- Acid wash surface with Spirits of Salt diluted 1: 10 with water to etch surface.
- Neutralize acid etching by washing the surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1: 10 with water, and allow drying.
- Prime with one coat Prominent 2 Pack Floor Epoxy and allow 4 days curing time before over coating.
Wood:
- Sand, remove saw dust and apply 1 coat thinned down 15% and two coats undiluted.
Wooden decks:
Non-ferrous metals:
- Remove fabricators pre-treated oil, oxidation or any other contamination with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner / water mixture (ratio 1: 5) and abrasive pads.
- Ensure that a water break-free surface is obtained.
- Rinse well and allow drying Apply directly.
Concrete (moisture level below 8%):
- Acid wash surface with Spirits of Salt diluted 1: 10 with water to etch surface.
- Neutralize acid etching by washing the surface with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner diluted 1: 10 with water and allow dying out and apply 1 coat thinned down 15% and 2 coats undiluted.
Existing paint:
- Strip down and treat as new work or on sound paint surfaces: Prominent 2 Pack Floor Epoxy can be used as a barrier/primer coat.
Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor coating:
- Abrade to matt finish, remove dust and apply directly, floor must be in a good condition.
Epoxy coatings:
- Abrade to a matt finish, clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner and apply directly.
Limitations
- Cannot be applied over conventional decorative coatings.
- Surfaces to be painted must be dry, moisture should not exceed 8% for a direct application.
- Catalyst must be kept well sealed and free of moisture.
- Must be used within 2 hours after mixing the base with catalyst.
- Sheen and colour variations can be visible due to variable film thickness/number of coats.
- Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coating is not recommended for application on wooden decks.
- Moisture contamination will affect the curing ability of the product.
- The application of a further coat of Prominent 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coating after the 24 hour recoating period is reached will necessitate sanding of the existing 2 Pack Polyurethane Floor Coating to a matt finish to ensure the correct inter-coat adhesion results are obtained.
- To ensure a consistent appearance ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.
Safety
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
- In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
- If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
- Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.

- Mixed product is flammable. Do not use near open flames.
Tint Bases
The tint base containers are only filled to levels which are specific for each tint base to allow the calculated volume of colourant to be added in order to achieve the volume indicated on the container after tinting. Tint bases and colourants are unfinished products which should not be used on their own. Only once the prescribed colourant is added to the specific tint base will the finished product comply with the technical features and related information as set out in this TDS.
Colourant to be used: Prominent colourants are 100% Lead Free specifically formulated for use with Prominent Pro-Matic tinting system.
Tint Bases: Clear Tint Base.
