Features
- Excellent exterior durability and UV resistance.
- Goes on directly to surfaces without priming.
- Bitumen content adds to water resistance of the coating.
- Highly reflective.
- Lead free.
Intended Usages
- Exterior finish for steel and galvanised iron.
- Roof coating on weathered galvanised iron.
- Steel fencing.
Application Details
Mixing: Since the aluminium pigment settles very easily must it be stirred well before and during use with a flat paddle to an even consistency.
Method: Roller, oval brush or airless spray.
Thinning: Not recommended but 10% maximum with ProGold Mineral Turpentine if required.
Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Mineral Turpentine.
Conditions:
Temperature between 5°C and 40°C. Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00. Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point. If possible away from direct sunlight.
Drying time: Surface dry - 12 hours, Hard dry - 48 hours at 23°C.
Recoating time: 48 hours at 23°C. Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).
Requirements: One coat for recoating, two coats for new work.
Surface Preparations
New steel and galvanised iron:
- Degrease with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 10) and abrasive pad.
- Rinse with clean water and then apply directly.
Weathered galvanised iron:
- Remove rust, clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 10) and abrasive pad, rinse with clean water and then apply directly.
Rusted steel:
- Remove rust, clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 10) and abrasive pad, rinse with clean water and then apply directly.
Bitumen Aluminium:
- Clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 10), rinse with clean water and then apply directly.
Previously Painted Surface in Good Condition:
- Clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water solution (1: 10), rinse with clean water and then apply directly.
Previously Painted Surface in Poor Condition:
- Remove and treat as new work.
Limitations
- Not recommended for use on bituminous waterproofing and/or coatings.
- Use limited to protection of steel and galvanised iron.
- Not a heat resistant aluminium finish.
- Cannot be used over Prominent Rust Primer or Prominent Galvanised Iron Primer.
- Cannot be overcoated with emulsion paint.
- Prominent Bituminous Aluminium Paint must NOT be applied to roofs that act as catchments for drinking water.
- Product should not be applied to areas which will remain submerged under water.
- Good weather resistance, but normal fading takes place over time.
- A maintenance coat 2-3 years after completion of the project will be required for continual protection and correct product performance.
Safety
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
- In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
