Description

Appearance: Matt
Spreading Rate: 2 - 6 m²/litre dependent on surface texture and porosity.
Solids: ± 67% by mass and ± 38% by volume.
Density: 1,37 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: Not applicable.
Viscosity: ± 90 Kµ.
Flash Point: 43°C.

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Available Sizes: 1Lt, 5Lt, 20Lt
Colours: White.

Features

  • Good adhesion to cement plaster and chalky painted surfaces.
  • Good barrier against rising damp and penetrating rain.
  • Alkali resistant to go directly onto fresh cement.
  • Microporous to allow water vapour to move out of walls.
  • Water resistant.
  • Can be recoated by any conventional decorative coating.
  • Can be left as a final coat, but will chalk over time.
  • 100% lead free.

Intended Usages

  • Primer for new cement and gypsum board.
  • Surface conditioner for chalky friable surfaces.
  • Cure for rising damp on interior walls when applied correctly and onto bricks to prevent rain penetration.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller, brush.
  • Thinning: ProGold Mineral Turpentine.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Mineral Turpentine.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.

Drying time: 
6 hours. 
Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time:
 18-24 hours at 23°C with substrate moisture level of 15% or below. Higher moisture levels up to 40% will require up to 48 hours before recoating.

Requirements:
 One coat as a primer, two to three coats as waterproofing barrier.

Surface Preparations
Cement plaster:

  • Apply directly.

Cement plaster with rising damp:

  • One thinned coat (up to 20% with ProGold Mineral Turpentine) and two thick undiluted barrier coats.

Chalky surfaces:

  • Remove chalkiness and then apply one coat Prominent Dampcure thinned 20% with ProGold Mineral Turpentine and one coat unthinned.

Fibre Cement:

  • Remove dust and apply directly.

Gypsum board & plaster:

  • Remove dust and apply directly.
  • Can be applied directly onto sound painted surfaces.

Surfaces in poor condition:

  • Remove and treat as new work.

Limitations

  • Product cannot withstand movement.
  • Should NOT be applied to old paint when used to cure rising damp.
  • Penetration into friable surfaces must be checked for efficiency before proceeding.
  • Cannot be applied to highly polished cement surfaces e.g. steel and powerfloated.
  • Product cannot handle more than 40% constant damp/moisture.
  • Not to be applied as a primer on cement floors.
  • Tinting not recommended.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
  • If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993. (ACT NO 85 of 1993). Contact Prominent Paint Technical Department on 0861 776 646 or 011 389 4746 if a copy of the Asbestos Regulations is required.
