Description

Appearance: Silver lustre
Spreading Rate: 14 - 16 m² per litre.
Solids: ± 66% by mass and ± 65% by volume.
Density: 0,95 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 2 coats at 25 µm per coat minimum.
Recommended Wet Film Thickness: 2 coats at 38µm per coat minimum.
Viscosity: ± 60 Kµ.
Flash Point: 43°C.

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Intended Usages

  • Exterior coating for steel and galvanised iron.
  • Can be used over conventional iron primers, including Prominent Rust Primer and Ultra Prime.

Application Details

  • Mixing: As the aluminium pigment settles very easily, must it be stirred well with a flat paddle to an even consistency before and during use.
  • Method: Roller, brush or spray.
  • Thinning: Not recommended but 10% maximum with ProGold Mineral Turpentine if required.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with ProGold Mineral Turpentine.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.

Drying time: 
Surface dry - 12 hours, Hard dry - 48 hours.

Recoating time: 
48 hours at 23°C.

Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Requirements: One coat for recoating, two coats for new work.

Surface Preparations
Steel:

  • Degrease with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and abrasive pads, rinse and allow drying.
  • Prime with any conventional iron primer (Prominent Etch primer, Prominent Rust Primer or Prominent Ultra Prime).

Galvanised iron:

  • Degrease with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner /water mixture (1: 5) and abrasive pads, rinse and allow to dry.
  • Prime with Prominent Galvanised Iron Primer.

Rusted steel:

  • Remove rust, degrease with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and abrasive pads, rinse and allow to dry.
  • Apply 2 coats Prominent Rust Primer.

Weathered galvanised iron:

  • Remove rust, degrease with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1: 5) and abrasive pads, rinse and allow drying.
  • Apply 2 coats Prominent Rust Primer.

Paint in good condition:

  • Clean off and apply directly.

Paint in poor condition:

  • Remove and treat as new work.

Limitations

  • Not heat resistant.
  • Not for use over waterproofing systems.
  • Cannot be overcoated with emulsion paints.
  • Prominent General Purpose Aluminium paint must NOT be applied to roofs that act as catchment for drinking water.
  • Product should not be applied to areas which will remain submerged under water.
  • Good weather resistance, but normal fading takes place over time.
  • A maintenance coat 2-3 years after completion of the project will be required for continual protection and correct product performance.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
  • Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
  • To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
  • Always wear gloves when working with the product and avoid excessive inhalation and skin contact.
  • Wet product is flammable and naked should not be allowed in the vicinity of the working area.
