High obliteration emulsion based paint designed to be used as a sealer coat on new cement plasters. Meets the requirement of SABS 1586 Grade 4.

Description

Appearance: Matt
Spreading Rate: 4 - 8 m²/l dependent on surface texture and porosity.
Solids: ± 50% by mass and ± 30% by volume.
Density: ± 1,55 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 1 coat at 40 µm minimum.
Viscosity: ± 110 - 115 Kµ.
Flash Point: Non-flammable.

Storage:

  • Keep containers properly sealed.
  • Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Available Sizes: 5Lt, 20Lt
Colours: White.
Calculated Maximum VOC: 30g/L maximum.

Features

  • Waterbased: Low odour, easy cleaning.
  • Alkali resistance: Can be applied directly to new cement plaster.
  • Excellent sealing: Prevents absorption of more expensive final coats by substrate.
  • Economical: Good obliteration at low cost.
  • 100% lead free and low VOC: Reduces the odour associated with painting indoors.

Intended Usages

  • Direct application to sound interior cement plaster and unglazed brick as a sealer. (Not recommended for scratch plaster).
  • Gypsum ceilings.

Application Details

  • Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
  • Method: Roller, brush or airless spray.
  • Thinning: Not recommended.
  • Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with tap water.

Conditions:

  • Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
  • Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10: 00 and 16: 00.
  • Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
  • If possible away from direct sunlight.

Drying time: 
Touch dry - 30 minutes. 
Note:  Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).

Recoating time: 4 hours at 23°C.

Requirements:
 Two coats.

Surface Preparations
Cement plaster:

  • Direct - no primer required.

Gypsum ceiling boards:

  • Direct - no primer required.

Ceilings:

  • Clean and apply directly.

Not recommended as final coat on other surfaces.

Limitations

  • Not recommended as finishing coats due to poor stain resistance.
  • Not to be used directly on rhinolite, cretestone, fibre cement and parapet walls.
  • Cannot be applied in cold and moist conditions.
  • Product cannot accommodate excessive movement, i.e. hairline cracking or application onto flexible coatings like texture coats.
  • Chalking takes place due to UV exposure.
  • Not for use in bathrooms or kitchens.
  • Tinting not recommended.
  • The low VOC compliance is applicable for batches manufactured from 1 September 2010 onwards.

Safety

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
  • In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
  • If product is ingested drink plenty of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
