Cement Fibre: New - Gutters/Downpipes/Barge/Fascia Boards:

If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health  and Safety Act 1993. (ACT NO 85 of 1993). Contact Prominent Paint Technical Department on 0861 776 646 or 011 389 4746 if a copy of the Asbestos Regulations is required.
  • Sand well to remove all flaking and peeling paint back to bare sound substrate by any means possible.
  • Spot prime nail/screw heads with PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (18 hours drying time).
  • Apply one coats of PROMINENT DAMPCURE to the entire barge boards and allow curing for 24hours.
  • Apply two coats PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF or PROMINENT ULTRA GLOSS/SATIN/SHIELD (4-6 hours drying time).

Concrete: Shuttered – Unplastered And Prefab Walling:​

  • Check for oil/grease used as form release agents. If evident clean down with a PROMINENT PRO GOLD G.P CLEANER/WATER solution, ratio 1:6 using a GUTTER BROOM and wash down with clean running water after ensuring all soapy residues are removed and allow curing.  
  • Apply one coat PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER at 4-6m² per liter and allow curing for 18hours.
  • Apply 2nd coat PROMINENT PLASTER PRIMER at 4-6m² per liter and allow curing for 18hours.
  • Apply two coats PROMINENT PREMIUM TEXTURED/SATIN/MATT (6 hours curing between coats) or PROMINENT ULTRA SATIN/SHIELD/EARTH (6 hours curing between coats).

  • Apply two coats PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF or PROMINENT ULTRA GLOSS/SATIN/SHIELD (4-6 hours drying time).

Eaves/Soffits – Covered:​

  • Ensure that the condition of the substrate is sound.
  • Sand down lightly with 80 Grit sandpaper and remove residue.
  • Check for watermarks and seal leaks on roof or at gutter level, wherever there is water ingress.
  • Apply a coat of PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (24 hours drying time) to water marked areas.
  • Apply a coat of PROMINENT DAMPCURE to new unpainted surfaces (24 hours drying time).
  • Apply two coats of PROMINENT PAINTS PREMIUM SATIN/ TEXTURED/MATT or ULTRA SATIN/SHIELD/EARTH and allow 6hours curing between coats.

Cement: Fibre/Asbestos – Previously Painted: Gutters, Downpipes, Barge/Fascia Boards:​

If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health  and Safety Act 1993.     • Sand and scrape off any loose paint and remove residue. Remove rusted nails and replace with brass screws. Counter sink and fill with PROMINENT PRO GOLD READY MIX FILLER.
    • If the surface has been painted with an oil-based paint, apply a coat of PROMINENT UNIVERSAL UNDERCOAT (18 hours drying time) then apply two coats of PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF or PROMINENT ULTRA SHEEN/GLOSS/MATT (4-6 hours drying time between coats).
    • If paint can be removed down to the original asbestos surfaces, apply one coat of PROMINENT  DAMPCURE (24 hours drying time) followed by two coats of PROMINENT PREMIUM ROOF (6 hours drying time) or PROMOINENT ULTRA MATT/SHEEN/GLOSS (4-6 hours drying time between coats).
